There are also four museums, three theatres, two art galleries, seven libraries, three casinos, a bowling alley, a sea life centre, the largest fun park in the south-east, a skateboard park and BMX track, five leisure centres, even an airport.… and there’s more.

Adventure Island

The Terrace Guest House is a fantastic viewpoint to see the world famous Pier, day & night. More than 100 years old and 1.33 miles long, the pier is the longest pleasure pier in the world. If you're feeling energetic you can take a walk to the end or you can catch one of the unique pier trains one-way or both ways.

The Pier

Also along Southend's seafront is the renovated Kursaal building. The Kursaal was the entertainment centre of Southend more than 50 years ago with a glorious ballroom and outstanding architecture. It has now been brought back to its former glory and updated for the new millennium with a superb 30 lane bowling alley and amusements all round.

The Kursaal

Near the Kursaal is Southend Sea Life Adventure where you and the kids can voyage beneath the ocean to see the amazing display of nature's marine life.

Cliffs & Gardens

The awards Southend has received for its gardens & parks says it all. Gold, Silver & Bronze awards for the Council's Parks Department at The RHS Chelsea Flower Show; world finalist at the Nations In Bloom competition; Second place in the Britain In Bloom category for large cities and the winner of the Anglia In Bloom competition.

All of Southend's parks are easily accessible from the guest house either by car or bus. Close by is Priory Park with numerous awards for its well looked after gardens, bowling green, duck ponds and Priory. Also close by is Chalkwell Park which has a Green Flag for its overall presentation including a cricket green, rose garden and peacocks!

Much of the focus on Southend's gardens lies on the Cliff hills. Here, you can enjoy spectacular bedding displays and lawns along with features such as the large floral clock, Queen Victoria statue and the Bandstand which is still very much in use with brass & classical open-air concerts as well as plays for you to enjoy from the comfort of your deck chair!

Theatres

Perched on top of the cliffs is The Cliffs Pavilion. This awesome building was designed to imitate the style of a cruise ship. While you wait for your show to start in the foyer bar and look out to see, you could almost be on that cruise ship! The architecture stunning but not nearly as much as some of shows played in the large auditorium. From West-end musicals to Rock concerts to classical concerts to the biggest and best pantomime in the south east, the Cliffs Pavilion always puts on a show!

A bit further afield is the Palace Theatre. Here you can experience the more traditional theatre in the Edwardian building where drama, comedy and thrillers are staged.
